What is video trimming?
Video trimming — or cutting — means keeping one section of a clip and dropping everything before and after it. VidPackit does the whole job inside your browser: the file is read with the File API, cut and re-encoded through WebCodecs, and written back to your own disk, so no part of it reaches a server. You drag two handles on a timeline, or type exact start and end timecodes down to the millisecond, and the tool writes out just that range. Fast mode copies the encoded video untouched, which is lossless and nearly instant; Compatible mode re-encodes for a frame-exact cut. There is no upload queue, no watermark, no sign-up and no file size cap. It is free, and it runs on desktop Chrome and Edge.

Pick the section
Drag the two handles on the timeline to set the start and end, or drag the middle of the selection to slide a fixed-length window along the clip. For exact values, type them into the Start and End fields as HH:MM:SS.mmm. Playback stays inside the selection, so what you preview is what you keep.
Choose a mode
Fast copies the video as it is — no quality loss, ready in seconds, with the cut snapping to the nearest key frame. Compatible re-encodes for a frame-exact cut, takes longer, and lets you write MP4, WebM or MKV.
Trim and download
Press Trim Video and your browser writes the clip locally, with a progress bar. Download the result when it finishes. Nothing was uploaded at any point.
If a logo or timestamp is burned into the footage, clean it up with the watermark remover before or after you cut so the mark never reaches the final clip.

Fast vs Compatible
Both modes cut the same range — they differ in what happens to the picture on the way out.
Fast — stream copy
The encoded video is copied into a new MP4 without being decoded, so there is zero quality loss and the job finishes in seconds. The trade-off is the cut point: it snaps to the nearest key frame, so the clip can start a moment earlier than the handle you set.
Compatible — re-encode
The video is decoded and encoded again, so the cut lands exactly on the frame you chose and the result plays in more players and editors. It takes longer than Fast mode, and the picture goes through one generation of compression.
Supported formats
Trimming reads whatever your browser can decode, and writes the containers below.

Browsers only encode what their WebCodecs stack supports. If a container cannot be produced here, switch back to Fast mode, which copies the original video into an MP4 without re-encoding it.
Privacy and security
Trimming happens inside the page you have open. Your video is read with the File API, cut and written back by your browser through WebCodecs. No copy goes to VidPackit or anywhere else.
You can check that yourself in about a minute:
- Open the Network tab in your browser dev tools, then trim a file. No request carries your video data.
- Turn off your Wi-Fi after the page has loaded. The tool keeps working, because it does not need a connection.
- Close the tab and the file is gone. Nothing is kept on a server because nothing was ever uploaded.

Which mode should I use, Fast or Compatible?
Use Fast when you just want a section out of a recording: the video is copied untouched, so there is no quality loss and it finishes in seconds. Use Compatible when the exact frame matters or the result has to play everywhere — it re-encodes and takes longer.
Why does my trimmed clip start slightly earlier than I set?
Fast mode copies the encoded video instead of re-encoding it, so the cut has to begin at a key frame — the nearest one at or before the point you chose. Switch to Compatible mode if the cut has to land on the exact frame.
Are my videos uploaded anywhere?
No. Cutting runs in your browser with WebCodecs, so the file never leaves your device. The privacy section above lists two ways to verify that yourself.
